Fort Meade, with a population of more than 25,000 civilian employees and 9,000 military personnel, is home to 78 tenant organizations from all four services. It is an installation that showcases America's Army, provides world-class business services and base operations support to its tenants. Some of our major tenants include National Security Agency, 694th Intelligence Group (U.S. Air Force), 902nd Military Intelligence Group and 704th Military Intelligence Brigade (U.S. Army), Naval Security Group Activity (U.S. Navy), Headquarters, First U.S. Army (East); the Defense Information School, U.S. Army Field Band, and Environmental Science Center (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency).
Fort Meade has a significant impact on the local economy. The annual civilian payroll is more than $1.4 billion; the military payroll is more than $410 million dollars. Fort Meade is one of Maryland's largest employers.
Our higher headquarters is the U.S. Army Military District of Washington, located at Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. The Military District of is comprised of Fort Myer (Virginia), Fort Belvoir (Virginia), Fort A.P. Hill (Virginia/sub-installation of Fort Belvoir), Fort Ritchie (Maryland) and Fort Hamilton (New York).
Our community has everything to meet your needs. Our Towne Centre complex features a post exchange, bank, bowling center, post office and commissary. In addition, there is a credit union, ambulatory care center, two day-care centers, library, theater, and arts and crafts shop -- just to name a few.
Fort Meade is centrally located between Baltimore, Annapolis and Washington, D.C. This location offers easy access to historical sites and the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis -- outings at the Smithsonian Institute, concerts at the Kennedy Center, tours of the White House, and sporting events featuring the Washington Wizards at the MCI Arena in Washington, D.C., and the Washington Redskins at Jack Kent Cooke Stadium in Landover, Maryland, -- or, strolling at the Inner Harbor, visiting the National Aquarium, and ending the day with a Baltimore Ravens Football game or a baseball game at Orioles Park at Camden Yards in downtown Baltimore.
